Our Pastor
Rev. Elizabeth Quick was appointed pastor to our church from the North Central New York Conference of the United Methodist Church by Bishop Marcus Matthews, effective July 1, 2009.
Rev. Quick (Beth) grew up in Westernville and then Rome, NY. Her mother Karen is retired from nursing and lives in Rome with one of Beth’s three brothers, Tim. Beth’s oldest brother Jim lives with his wife, Jennifer, and 20 month old son Sam in Syracuse. Beth’s youngest brother Todd works as an actor, and is frequently on tour in and out of state and stays with her in between ‘gigs’.
Beth has strong family ties and her mom taught all her children that each person is called by God for some purpose and that it is each one’s job to discover what that calling is. As she prepared to enter college, God’s voice seemed more clearly to be calling her to ordained ministry. Beth attended Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, Ohio, and studied pre-theology and theatre. She then continued on to pursue a Master of Divinity degree at Drew Theological School in Madison, NJ.
After graduation from seminary, Beth was commissioned as a probationary elder, and appointed to serve as pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oneida, NY. She served there for four years, during which time she was ordained an elder in the North Central New York Annual Conference.
Beth most recently served as pastor of Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church in Northern New Jersey, serving ‘on loan’ under Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar, formerly a clergy member of the NCNY Annual Conference. Beth also serves as the Conference Youth Coordinator for NCNY, a position she has held for the last six years.
Rev. Quick has very much looked forward to moving back to her ‘home’ area, spending time with her family, and getting to know and work in ministry with everyone at The First United Church!
